Bow the Knee
There are moments on our journey following the Lord
Where God illumines ev’ry step we take.
There are times when circumstances make perfect sense to us,
As we try to understand each move He makes.
When the path grows dim and our questions have no answers, turn to Him.
Bow the knee;
Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee;
Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don’t understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.
There are days when clouds surround us, and the rain begins to fall,
The cold and lonely winds won’t cease to blow.
And there seems to be no reason for the suffering we feel;
We are tempted to believe God does not know.
When the storms arise, don’t forget we live by faith and not by sight.
“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11
Draw near to me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret, from the time it came to be I have been there.” And now the Lord GOD has sent me, and his Spirit. Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go. Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea; your offspring would have been like the sand, and your descendants like its grains; their name would never be cut off or destroyed from before me.” Isaiah 48:16-19

The truth of this song changed my walk with the Lord. Instead of striving to know WHY or to find my own way, through these words I learned to BOW THE KNEE. It is not in servitude or bondage but in joyful love and obedience to the One whose Hand holds eternity, the One who is my Father who holds me in his heart.

Thank you for posting the lyrics to this beautiful song of surrender and trust, in the midst of REAL life (as it is, not how we would wish or think it to be.)
My googling for the lyrics led me to you and your site, for which I am also grateful.
I’m looking forward to swinging back here, and investigating more.
I deeply appreciate your “name”(?) Redeemed Slave. Takes me back to the paradox of freedom I long ago noted in Romans…slaves of sin…to slaves of righteousness. On the surface it doesn’t sound like any fun. Slaves?? But, we dare to enter, or find ourselves led into this paradox, and discover not only True Life, but, our ONLY Life.
Praise God. Looking forward to drinking in encouragement from your site work. THank you.

Eleven years ago, the Lord took our first son at 9 months (SIDS). Some well-meaning believers tried to tell us it was merely a result of sin’s effects in a fallen world – essentially outside God’s control. The God I serve is all-powerful and we know from scripture He gives us each breath we take. His grace bore us through that loss, but the pain still remains at times. Yesterday at church this song was sung by a young boy, and as he sang it was as though God was reminding me through this young boy of our son – and that I had to remain bowing the knee to Him and His wisdom. We ‘re to remain trusting with our eyes on Him, though there will be tears in our eyes – He promises some day to wipe them away…not here, but in Heaven.
